White Rose Remembered
If you are a regular at the Jack, you’ll probably have seen many Arrows & Traps’ productions. The company is led by writer & director Ross McGregor, who has penned the last seven Arrows & Traps plays at the theatre. Their sell-out shows include: Chaplin Birth of a Tramp, The Strange Case of Jekyll & Hyde, Taro, Gentleman Jack, Dracula and Frankenstein. If you have a favourite – please let us know!
This week we’re remembering one particularly powerful production, The White Rose. This played 17 July – 4 August 2018. Although it was a very hot summer, the theatre was full each night.
Here’s a reminder…
The White Rose recounts the final days of Sophie Scholl, a 21-year-old student, who led the only major act of German civil disobedience during the Second World War. Sophie, along with her brother Hans, published underground anti-Nazi leaflets calling for the peaceful overthrow of Hitler. The play examines the moral strength and courage that led a group of young people to risk their lives for a righteous, dangerous cause.
Currently in lock-down the company have got together again (remotely!) to produce this retrospective video, with thoughts from the actors and the writer-director. It also includes some fabulous rehearsal and performance footage. The video is a moving reminder of this story and an insight into the company. It’s great to see all these terrific actors again.
Arrows & Traps Theatre are our Associate Company at the Jack Studio. Founded in 2014 by Artistic Director Ross McGregor, they work in a repertory style, with an in-house company of actors and creatives. They are a seventeen-time Offie-nominated, company specialising in historical new writing and bold adaptations of classic novels in London and the UK.
Like many companies all their future work has been cancelled, including their recent tours, where they were taking two shows premiered at the Jack across the country. If you are able to support them in these uncertain times, please do so by clicking here
