When We Were Us
written and directed by Jade Winters
presented by Wicked Winters
When We Were Us is a story about friendship – the kind that shapes you, saves you, and sometimes quietly slips away.
Four friends meet for a long-overdue catch-up – at least, that’s what Brooke believes. What she doesn’t know is that the others have sensed something is wrong for a while, and tonight is their quiet attempt to reach her.
It’s not long before old truths stir beneath the surface. And as the night unfolds, so does the cost of what’s been hidden.
This is a play about the space between who we are and what we show. About love that lingers even when trust is broken, and what happens when the people who know you best finally see what you hoped they never would.
Because every friendship has a turning point – a moment we only understand in hindsight.
That moment is When We Were Us.

Press for this production
‘Victoria Broom gives a compelling performance as the besotted, so-in-love young woman turned into the trembling waif who her friends feel they must help. Gradually she is compelled to leave her flat, job, family and friends as the abuse form her girlfriend slowly accelerates into actual violence.
This is a well directed show, using flashbacks which are a tricky manoeuvre in plays but Jade Winters, who wrote and directed the piece, pulls it off here. It is disturbing and relevant.’ ★★★★ Plays to See
‘a great piece of writing that was presented really well by a high-quality cast. ’ London Theatre 1 ★★★★
‘Broom’s performance is a masterclass in acting. She truly inhabits the role… It’s only 60 minutes but, my goodness, this brave play packs a punch.’ ★★★★ London Pub Theatres
