Starring Deborah Kerr & Michael Redgrave

Director  Jack Clayton

Adapted fairly freely from Henry James’s  novel  The Turn of the Screw  this is an absolute classic.  A creepy and atmospheric British black-and-white horror. Deborah Kerr stars as a governess who comes to fear that the two children in her care are being possessed. Is she right?  As the publicity at the time said  “Prepare for the shock of your life!”

With legendary cameraman Freddie Francis on board, supplying arguably his most spectacular visual accompaniment to the action, this is a film in which setting and atmosphere play a significant role. The final scene earned the film an X-certificate on its initial release, and an enduring reputation as a properly  disturbing depiction of repressed sexuality. There will be a short talk before the screening.
