Macheath has been transported to the West Indies… Polly Peachum embarks on a life-changing adventure in order to be reunited with her famous highwayman.
Initially banned by the Lord Chamberlain for being a “filthy and libellous work,” Polly was not performed in Gay’s life time, though it was published and earned Gay several thousand pounds. After its first performance in 1777 it became an instant hit.
Polly is presented in this one-night-only semi-staged performance alongside our Beggar’s Opera offering a unique opportunity to see these two sister plays together.
