Ghost Light

by Ian Tucker-Bell

story by Ian Tucker-Bell and Philip Holden

directed by Philip Holden

presented by Orange Works

The theatre is full of ghosts.

It is 1865, and Henry Webster joins the notorious London Ghost Club hoping to meet and be inspired by Charles Dickens.

There he meets Edward Price who draws Henry into investigating a haunting at his own lodging house, owned by the widowed Mia Sands.

At night, the ghosts of two young children wander the house in search of light and safety – while fearing what waits for them in the darkness.

This atmospheric tale, inspired by the stories of M R James and almost entirely lit by hand-held lanterns has played to great acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe and around the country.

Orange Works is a new-writing theatre company, based in Kent. For close to a decade we’ve made and staged original plays that have moved audiences across the UK and beyond.

Press for this production:

“A hidden gem”  ★★★★★  The Derek Awards

“A very well crafted piece of modern writing. Builds a deepening mystery which grows into a dark gothic horror. An ingenious tale of horror – you will be left wishing for more” ★★★★ British Theatre Guide

“a finely-worked production, which might leave you hesitating – just for a moment – as you reach to switch off that bedside lamp.” ★★★★ The Wee Review

“Ghost Light is the old-fashioned kind of storytelling you wish there was more of.” ★★★★ Broadway Baby

“Eerily staged in almost complete darkness save for a few lamps – or ghost lights – the tension kicks in within the first few seconds and doesn’t let up until all the secrets are revealed. Thrillingly acted … this is a strong, old-fashioned ghost story in the finest Victorian tradition…” ★★★★  The Real Chrisparkle
